Reading about a real place is one of the best ways for young readers to practice finding facts, naming a main idea, and drawing a conclusion from what the text actually says. This Welcome to Georgia Reading Comprehension Worksheet gives third graders a short, friendly non-fiction passage about the Peach State and then asks them to go back into the text to prove their answers. Students read about the peaches, peanuts, and pecans that grow there, the bright red clay soil, the hills and forests of the north, the wide farms of the middle, the sandy beaches of the east, and the huge swamp in the far south. They also meet the busy capital city of Atlanta and the brown thrasher, the state bird that sings from the branches of peach trees in spring.
