The Writing About Me Worksheet gives first grade students a friendly, structured place to write about the person they know best. Writing about yourself is where most children first discover that they have something to say, and it is also where the blank page stops them cold. A prompt that simply says “write about yourself” is too wide open for a six-year-old; what a beginning writer needs is a small number of clear, concrete questions and enough room to answer each one. The Writing About Me Worksheet supplies exactly that.
This 1st grade writing prompts worksheet opens with a line for the child to write their own name, then gives three separate prompts, each in its own numbered block with two full-width writing lines: something I am good at, a day I will always remember, and what makes me happy. The lines are spaced for first grade handwriting, so children are not squeezing letters to make them fit. Print one for each student at the start of the year, use it on a slow Friday afternoon, or send it home as an easy piece of writing homework. Every response belongs to the child, so there is nothing to mark as right or wrong.

Three things make this page work with beginning writers. First, splitting the task into three small prompts means a child who freezes on one still has two others to try, so almost nobody finishes the page blank. Second, each prompt asks about something the child already carries around in their head, which removes the research step and leaves only the writing. Third, the two lines per prompt are a gentle target: enough room to write a real sentence or two, and not so much space that the page feels like a mountain.
Teachers and parents can build on this page in a lot of directions. Read the finished sheets aloud and let the class guess who wrote each one. Pin them on a bulletin board as a start-of-year display, then hand the same page back in May so students can see how much their writing has grown. Ask a child to turn one prompt into a longer story on the back. At home, fill one in yourself alongside your child and compare; children write far more freely when an adult is writing too.
