Description
An adjective describes something; a comparative adjective describes how two things stack up against each other. Most short adjectives make that jump the same tidy way – add er to the end and put the word than after it. Tall becomes taller, cold becomes colder, fast becomes faster. This comparing adjectives fill in blank worksheet gives second graders five sentences that each compare two familiar things, and asks them to build the right comparative adjective themselves rather than simply circling one that is already written for them.
At the top of the page sits a word box with five plain adjectives – tall, fast, cold, small, and soft. Below it, five numbered sentences each hold a wide blank: A cheetah runs ____ than a turtle. A giraffe is ____ than a pony. Students choose the adjective that fits the comparison, add er, and write the new word on the line.
