Adjectives are the describing words that turn a plain sentence into a picture a reader can see in their head, and second graders meet them everywhere — in the books they read, in the sentences they write, and on every reading assessment they sit. This Adjectives Puppy Story Worksheet teaches that skill the way it actually shows up: inside a real story, where an adjective has to be spotted, named, and connected back to the noun it belongs to. Students learn that a word like soft or green is not just extra decoration — it answers a question the reader is already asking about the noun beside it.
The worksheet opens with a short original story about Parker and his puppy, Buddy. In Part A, students read the whole story and circle all 8 adjectives hiding inside it, which forces them to slow down and look at every word rather than skim. In Part B, they go back to the same story and write the adjective that describes each of six nouns — grass, bed, fur, water, tail, and hole.
