Capital letters are one of the first writing conventions a young student is asked to control, and they carry more rules than a child expects: the first word of every sentence, the word I, and the name of every particular person, day, month, and place. This fixing capitalization errors worksheet gives second graders a page of sentences printed entirely in lower case and asks them to put the capitals back where they belong. Finding a missing capital is harder than adding one to a blank line, because nothing on the page marks the spot.
This 2nd grade capitalization worksheet is ready to print and use with no preparation. A worked example sits at the top, showing one lower-case sentence and the same sentence rewritten correctly, so a student who is stuck has a model rather than a rule to recall. Part A gives four sentences, each with two full-width lines underneath, so there is real room to copy the whole sentence at second grade handwriting size. Part B narrows the skill to two single words, a day and a month, which the student rewrites on a line with a capital letter.

There are three reasons this fixing capitalization errors worksheet helps children learn the skill. First, rewriting the whole sentence makes the child produce the capital rather than circle it, which is what the writing standard actually asks for. Second, every sentence carries more than one error, so a student cannot finish by fixing only the first word and stopping. Third, the sentences deliberately mix the four common cases, a sentence opening, a proper name, a day, and a month, so the page teaches a set of rules instead of drilling one.
Teachers and parents can extend this page easily. Ask students to read their rewritten sentences out loud and say why each capital is there, which turns a copying task into an explanation.
