Description
Dates on their own are hard to hold onto, but a timeline turns them into a story a student can see. The History Vertical Timeline of Events Graphic Organizer Worksheet gives fifth graders a place to build that story one event at a time. Students read a short passage about Wilbur and Orville Wright, pull out the five dated events hidden inside it, and write them down a vertical timeline from the earliest year to the latest.
The passage does not hand the events over in order. It opens with the famous flight of 1903 and then circles back through the bike shop, the glider, the kite, and the wind tunnel, so students have to read closely, note each year, and decide for themselves where it belongs. That is real note taking and real summarizing, not copying. A written response at the bottom asks students to pick two events and explain how the earlier test helped the later one, which turns a sequence into cause and effect. An answer key is included.
