About this resource
Description
Big B, little b and the B sound all come together in the Letter B Game, a bright toy-brick adventure for preschool kids. Friendly brick-built moles pop up out of holes in a toy garden, each one holding a sign with a letter or a picture, and children tap the moles holding the letter B. Playing the letter b game again and again helps little learners recognize the big B and the little b, tell b apart from look-alike letters like d and q, and hear that ball, bus, bed, book, box and bug all start with B.
In this letter b phonics game, Abby cheers kids on through four rounds. First they find the big B among letters like D, P and R. Then they find the little b among look-alikes like d and q, with the tip teachers love: little b has a bat first, then a ball. Next they tap the pictures that start with B and skip the dog, duck and pig. The bonus round mixes everything together, and the letters and pictures a child mixed up earlier come back for one more try. Abby reads every direction out loud, names each answer (“Bus! Bus starts with B.”) and gives a kind hint after a wrong tap. Play it in your browser on a phone, tablet, Chromebook or computer.

Here are three reasons this letter b game helps kids learn. First, the wrong choices are the real mix-ups young children make, like d for b and pig for ball, so kids practice exactly what trips them up. Second, Abby names the letter or the word after every right answer and uses the same words teachers use, like big B, little b and starts with B, so the lesson sounds the same at home and at school. Third, the popping moles, flying toy bricks, the buzzing bee, the golden mole surprise, streak celebrations and the stars at the end keep kids smiling and asking to play again.
Teachers and parents can keep the B fun going after the game. Go on a B hunt around the room or the house and find a ball, a book, a box and a bed. Have kids feel their lips pop together when they say ball and bus. Draw a little b in the air with a big bat line first, then the ball, and do it again for d to see the difference. Build a big B and a little b out of toy bricks, play dough or blocks.
