About this resource

Description

Big C, little c and the C in cat all come together in the Letter C Game, a cozy starry-night adventure for preschool kids. Soft glowing stars float above a little campsite, each one holding a letter or a picture, and children tap the stars with the letter C to connect the dots. Every right tap sends a little comet racing along a glowing line, and when the last dot is joined a surprise picture lights up in the sky. Playing the letter c game again and again helps little learners recognize the big C and the little c, tell C apart from look-alike letters like O, Q and D, and hear that cat, cup, car, cow and corn all start with C.

In this letter c phonics game, Alphy cheers kids on through four rounds. First they find the big C among letters like O, Q and D, and the dots trace a giant C the way children write it: start at the top, go around and stop. Then they find the little c among look-alikes like o, e and a, with the tip that little c looks just like big C, only smaller. Next they tap the pictures that start with C and skip the goat, dog and pig. The bonus round mixes everything together, and the letters and pictures a child mixed up earlier come back for one more try. Alphy reads every direction out loud, names each answer (“Cup! Cup starts with C.”) and gives a kind hint after a wrong tap. Play it in your browser on a phone, tablet, Chromebook or computer.

What’s Included

  • Online game that plays in any browser on desktop, tablet and phone
  • Included with every Have Fun Teaching membership
  • 4 rounds: Big C, Little c, C Pictures, then a bonus round with everything mixed together
  • Voice directions, sparkly starry-night sound effects and a star score at the end

Here are three reasons this letter c game helps kids learn. First, the wrong choices are the real mix-ups young children make, like O for C and e for c, so kids practice exactly what trips them up. Second, Alphy names the letter or the word after every right answer and uses the same words teachers use, like big C, little c and starts with C, so the lesson sounds the same at home and at school. Third, the racing comet, the sparkles, the giggling stars, the golden star surprise, the pictures that light up at the end of each round, streak celebrations and the stars at the end keep kids smiling and asking to play again.

Teachers and parents can keep the C fun going after the game. Go on a C hunt around the room or the house and find a cup, a car and a coat. Trace a big C in the air together: start at the top, go around, and stop. Make a cookie and take a bite so it looks like a C. Draw a few dots on paper and let your child connect them into a big C and a little c.
