How to teach Factors

Using Just the Factors Worksheet, students write the factors for each of the numbers provided in order to build their multiplication skills.

Knowing factors will help your students multiply and divide easier. It will also help as they find equivalent fractions. This practice gives them practice with factorization. Your students will need this first step before they learn Greatest Common Factors.

Students write the factors for the numbers provided. Use the rainbow method to make sure that you don't forget one of your factors!

Introduce this worksheet by reviewing multiplication facts. Ask students to tell you multiplication equations that make 12.  Next, show students how to create factor rainbows to show the pairs of numbers. Then, students complete worksheet independently or with a partner. Finally, challenge students to come up with other factor for other numbers!
