This Mommy’s Necklace reading comprehension worksheet gives 4th graders a warm, true-to-life nonfiction passage about family heirlooms. Students learn why a simple necklace that once belonged to a mom or a grandma can matter so much, how a strand of beads is put together, and how families care for these treasures and the stories that go with them.
The two-page passage is written at a 4th-grade reading level and defines each new word, such as heirloom, generation, clasp and restring, right in the sentence that introduces it. After reading, students answer four multiple-choice questions that cover vocabulary in context, key details, cause and effect and the main idea. A short written response then asks them to explain two ways a family can keep both the necklace and its story safe, using details from the text.
