This rhyming words cut and paste worksheet gives 1st grade readers a hands-on way to practice three short word families: -ug, -op and -at. Children read six printed word cards, listen for the ending chunk in each word, and glue every card into the family it rhymes with. Along the way they strengthen phonics, decoding and early reading fluency.
To use the page, kids first read the three family labels at the top. Then they cut out the six dashed cards at the bottom of the sheet: mop, cat, jug, top, rug and hat. Next they say each word aloud, find the family with the same ending, and paste the card into one of the two boxes under that label. This 1st grade rhyming worksheet works well for literacy centers, small reading groups, morning work or extra practice at home.
