Description
Young readers learn about a topic from the words on the page and from the pictures beside them. This RI.1.7 Common Core worksheet helps 1st grade students practice using both the text and the illustration to find key ideas about butterflies. Students read a short, simple text and then study a colorful picture of a monarch butterfly on a pink flower.
After reading, students look at six sentences about butterflies. For each one, they decide where they learned it and fill in T for the text or P for the picture. Some facts, like how a butterfly starts out as a tiny egg, come only from the words. Other details, like the orange and black wings, come only from the picture. This RI.1.7 Common Core worksheet builds the habit of checking both sources when reading nonfiction.
