How to teach CVCe Words
Using this Silent E Sundaes Activity , students practice spelling and reading CVC-silent e words by assembling ice cream sundaes to build reading fluency with CVCe words.
CVC and CVCe words make up a lot of the words your students encounter. This activity gives them practice with reading words that have a silent e at the end of them.
Choose three CVC scoops and place them in a bowl. Add a silent e spoon to create a CVCe word. Read the words aloud and record them on the included page.

Introduce this activity by practicing reading CVC words with your students. Students can use their hands or arms to break down the word. Next, add a silent e to the end of each of the words. Challenge students to read those new words.Then, students complete activity independently or with a partner. Once finished, challenge students to write sentences or draw pictures of words from this activity. This activity is perfect for a literacy center or small group lesson.
