UsingSound Hound Sounding Out Words Activity, studentsplay Sound Hound to practice sounding out words with three sounds (3-4 letter words).
Being able to sound out unknown words is important as your students begin to read more difficult text. This activity gives them practice breaking down words.
You will need a sound mat, picture cards, and letter dog bones to play. Place a picture card in the doghouse. Either say the word aloud to yourself or have a partner say the word for you. Listen to the letters/sounds that you hear in the word. Use the letter bones to spell out the word. Place a bone in each dog bowl to spell the word. After all dog bowls are filled, blend the sounds together and say the word aloud.
