Reading comprehension is what turns decoding into understanding. A third grader who can read every word on a page still has real work to do: following a sequence of events, holding a character’s feelings in mind, and deciding what the whole story is actually about. This Spring Break Reading Comprehension Worksheet gives students an original, on-grade story and then asks them to prove they understood it — through multiple choice, sentence completion, and a written response that has to be supported with details from the text.
The passage tells the story of Miguel, who plans out all five days of his spring break and tapes the plan to the fridge, only to watch two days of rain wash it away. His grandma reminds him that a plan is just a good idea, not a rule, and Miguel builds a new week out of books on the porch, couch-cushion forts, and a hand-drawn map of his street. Use the sheet as a guided reading passage, an independent literacy-center task, or a quick reading-comprehension assessment. Part A asks four fill-in-the-bubble questions covering main idea, sequence, and inference. Part B is a word-bank sentence completion that sends students back into the text.
