Place value is the idea that a digit’s worth depends on where it sits in a number. This THTO place value worksheet helps 3rd grade students read four-digit numbers built from thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones, and see why the 3 in 3,152 means three thousand.
Students first count coded base-ten blocks, including thousand cubes, hundred flats, ten rods, and single ones, and write the number each set of blocks shows. Next they regroup, trading ten of one place for one of the next larger place when a place holds more than nine, and solve a craft-store word problem about beads.
