Description
Alaska is the biggest state in the country, and it is nothing like the place most students live. It sits past the edge of the other forty-nine states, with Canada in between, and it is filled with glaciers, mountains, and wild animals. This Welcome to Alaska Reading Comprehension Worksheet gives third graders a short informational passage about Alaska and then asks them to go back into the text to find the answers. Reading a non-fiction passage closely, and proving an answer with a detail, is the exact skill state reading tests measure year after year.
The printable is three pages. Page one holds the illustrated passage, page two holds the questions, and page three is the answer key. Students read about Alaska’s size, its capital city, its glaciers, and the moose, bears, eagles, and salmon that live there. Then they answer four multiple-choice questions and one written response that asks for two details from the passage.
