Making an inference means using a clue from the text together with what you already know to figure out something the author did not say directly. This What I Know About the Text Inference Graphic Organizer Worksheet gives 3rd Grade students a clear place to do that thinking on paper. Each row of the organizer sets up the same equation the strategy is built on: Text plus What I Know equals Inference. Students see the clue, name their own background knowledge, and then write the conclusion those two pieces support.
