The You Write the Story Building Picture Worksheet gives young writers a fun picture and invites them to tell the story behind it. A girl and her dad have just finished building a wooden doghouse, and something is not quite right with the roof. What happened? What will they do next? Children decide, and in doing so they practice writing a real narrative with characters, events and an ending.
Students look closely at the picture, give the people names, and write their story on eight roomy writing lines sized for second grade handwriting. Because every child invents a different story, there is no single right answer, which makes this page a great way to see each student’s imagination and writing skills at work.
