The You Write the Story Painting Picture Worksheet turns one friendly picture into a whole narrative. Second graders look at a scene, decide who the characters are, and write the story the picture is telling. Picture prompts are one of the quickest ways to get a reluctant writer started, because the hardest part of narrative writing — thinking of something to write about — is already solved. The child still has to do the real work: naming the people, deciding what just happened, and telling what happens next in an order a reader can follow.
About This Worksheet
The picture shows two students at an easel. One girl is pointing at the painting she has just finished; the other is leaning in to look at it. Underneath, eight wide writing lines give plenty of room for second-grade handwriting.
