If you teach 3rd grade in Florida, you know how much rides on the spring reading test. Your readers have to work through stories, poems and articles, then answer two-part questions about them on a screen. If you’re hunting for FAST 3rd grade reading test prep at 9 p.m. with tomorrow still unplanned, this workbook was made for you.
The Florida FAST 3rd Grade Reading Practice Test Workbook is aligned to Florida’s B.E.S.T. Standards for English Language Arts and built from the state’s published FAST test design. Every passage and every question is original, written in the same styles your students will meet on test day.
It comes four ways: a Printable PDF, an Interactive Workbook that runs in the browser, a Bundle with both, and a full-color paperback on Amazon. Here’s what’s inside, a quick look-inside video, and a simple plan for using it between now and spring.
- An 18-question pretest, Learn It + practice for all 13 assessed B.E.S.T. reading benchmarks, mixed review, test-taking strategies, 2 full-length practice tests and a 227-answer key.
- 58 original passages: stories, poems and informational articles written for 3rd grade readers.
- Printable PDF $9.99 · Interactive Workbook $9.99 · Bundle $14.99 · School License $49.97 · Paperback $29.99 on Amazon.
- The Interactive Workbook reads directions, questions and answer choices aloud, and scores each section when students turn it in.
- Try the Interactive Workbook free online, no sign-up needed. Members get the PDF and the Interactive Workbook included.
What’s inside the FAST 3rd grade reading test prep workbook
Every page has a job. The workbook follows the order you’d actually teach: find out what students know, teach the gaps, mix it all together, then rehearse the real thing.
Pretest + scoring guide
18 questions and a guide that shows which skills to teach first.
Learn It + practice
A worked example, then passage-based practice, for all 13 assessed benchmarks.
58 original passages
Stories, poems and articles at a 3rd grade reading level, some in paired sets.
Test-taking strategies
Short, practical tips for reading a passage and finding the evidence.
2 full-length practice tests
38 questions each, in FAST question styles, with bubble answer sheets.
Answer key + trackers
227 answers tied to benchmarks, plus progress trackers, a class data sheet and a certificate.
The question types match what students see on the computer-based test: multiple choice, select-two multiselect, table match, two-part evidence questions and hot text, where students pick the sentence that proves an answer. When kids have already met those formats, test day is about the reading, not the buttons.

How does the Interactive Workbook work?
The Interactive Workbook is the same workbook, live in the browser. It runs on interactive whiteboards, touch panels, Chromebooks and tablets, and there’s nothing to install. It works like test day, so students practice the routine as well as the reading.
Questions read aloud
Directions, questions and answer choices are read aloud. Passage read-aloud is a setting you can turn on as an accommodation.
Students answer, then turn in
Just like the real test: no hints and no instant right-or-wrong while they work.
A score for each section
When a section is turned in, students see their score and which skills they’ve got.
Try it again
Students can try a section again, with the answer choices in a new order.
Want to see it first? Open the free preview on your classroom board tonight, read-aloud included, with no account needed. Two minutes in, you’ll know whether it fits your class.
Pick your format: Printable, Interactive, Bundle or Paperback

When do Florida 3rd graders take the FAST reading test?
Florida students take the FAST ELA Reading test three times a year. The spring test (PM3) is the one that counts for accountability, and for 2026–27 the grades 3–10 window runs May 3–28, 2027. Here’s an easy way to spread your FAST 3rd grade reading test prep across the year so April never turns into a cram session.
Now: give the pretest
Score it with the guide and circle the skills each reader needs most.
Fall into winter: teach the gaps
Use one Learn It + practice set a few times a week, in the order your pretest points to.
Winter: mix it up
Mixed review keeps theme, central idea and vocabulary fresh while you teach new texts.
March: Practice Test 1
Run it like test day, then reteach the skills that slipped.
April: Practice Test 2
A second full run builds reading stamina and shows real growth.
May: celebrate
Hand out the certificate. They worked hard for it.
Districts set their own days inside each window, so check your school calendar. For the benchmarks themselves and the latest test design, see the Florida Department of Education’s B.E.S.T. assessment page. Our Florida test prep page keeps every testing window and every Florida workbook in one place.
Members: assign it in HFT Classroom

FAST 3rd grade reading test prep: questions teachers ask
Is this workbook made by the Florida Department of Education?
No. Have Fun Teaching wrote every passage and question from scratch. The workbook is aligned to Florida’s B.E.S.T. Standards for English Language Arts and built from the state’s published FAST test design, so it prepares students for the test, but it is an independent practice resource and does not use released state test items.
What’s the difference between the editions?
The Printable PDF ($9.99) is all 224 pages to print. The Interactive Workbook ($9.99) is the same workbook in the browser, read aloud and scored when students turn in each section. The Bundle ($14.99) gives you both. The School License ($49.97) covers one whole school. The full-color paperback is $29.99 on Amazon.
What 3rd grade reading skills does the workbook cover?
It covers all 13 assessed grade 3 B.E.S.T. reading benchmarks across the three FAST reporting categories: Reading Prose and Poetry, Reading Informational Text, and Reading Across Genres and Vocabulary. That includes character, theme, poem types, central idea, text features, author’s purpose, figurative language, summarizing, paired texts, word parts and context clues, each with a Learn It lesson and passage-based practice.
Is the workbook included in a Have Fun Teaching membership?
Yes. Members get the Printable PDF and the Interactive Workbook at no extra cost, and they can assign it to their class in HFT Classroom. The paperback is a printed book sold by Amazon, so it is not part of the membership. Memberships start with 3 free days.
