Description
This adjectives search worksheet asks second graders to hunt for the describing word hiding in a set of everyday words. An adjective is a word that tells more about a noun, and the first step in using adjectives well is being able to spot one when it sits beside naming words and action words. Searching for the adjective in a mixed group is harder than filling a blank in a sentence, because the sentence usually gives the answer away, and that is exactly why this kind of practice builds a habit students carry into their own writing.
Part A gives five rows of four words, and in every row exactly one word is an adjective. Students read the row and circle the describing word, which means each row is a small decision rather than a copying task. Part B moves to four word pairs printed on cards, where one word in each pair describes and one does not; students write 1 or 2 to show which word is the adjective. The answer key is the second page, so checking the whole sheet takes a moment.

Read the first row aloud together and ask what each word does before anyone circles anything: does it name something, show an action, or describe something? Use this 2nd grade adjectives worksheet as a morning warm up, a literacy center card, a homework page, or a quick check before a parts of speech unit test. When the page is finished, ask students to pick two adjectives from it and use each one in a sentence about the classroom.
