About this resource

Description

How to teach Writing

Using this Author At Work Writing Checklist Activity, students use writing checklists when writing narratives, informative essays, and opinion essays. These checklists help ensure their written work is written clearly and contains the necessary components.

To become good writers, our students must include specific components depending on the type of writing they are developing. These writing checklists help your students to self-assess their work and produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to the task, purpose, and audience.

Give your students a writing topic and challenge them to use the corresponding writing checklist to produce their writing.

Other resources to use with this Author At Work Writing Checklist Activity

If you are using this activity, your students are probably learning about a variety of writing topics.

Use this Let’s Write RAFT Writing Activity as an additional resource for your students.

Introduce this activity by discussing the key components to the type of writing your students will be producing. Then, give your students a topic to write about. Next, hand out the corresponding writing checklist. While students are working, move around the room to ensure students are using the checklist while writing. Once students have finished their writing, encourage them to look over their writing with the checklist one last time.
