Reading comprehension grows when students read a real story and then go back into the text to prove what they understood. This Escape from the Farm reading comprehension worksheet gives third graders a short original story about Bacon the pig and Wool the sheep, who slip out through an open farm gate to find out whether the grass really is greener on the other side of the fence. Students read for cause and effect, follow the order of events, find a key detail, and decide what the whole story is really about.

There are three reasons this Escape from the Farm reading comprehension worksheet helps kids learn this skill.
