Description
This Connecticut Worksheet helps students learn about one of the smallest states in the country by reading a short nonfiction text and answering questions about it. Instead of sending children away to look up facts somewhere else, every answer on this Connecticut Worksheet is waiting inside the passage on page one. Students read about where the state sits in the northeast, the year it joined the country, the states and the sound that touch its borders, the wide river that shares its name, the capital city on that river, the low green hills and white oak trees of the northwest, and the nickname that honors an early set of written rules.
The activity begins with a full-color illustration of a broad river valley and a 261-word passage written on grade level. Students then move to the question page, where they fill in the bubble beside the best answer for four multiple choice items and write a longer response using two details from the text. Because the reading and the questions sit on facing pages, children practice going back to the text for evidence, which is exactly what state reading assessments ask them to do. This 3rd grade states worksheet works as a first lesson on the state, as a research warm-up, or as independent practice.
