Students look at six colorful pictures: a sun, a bib, a map, a bed, a bus, and a box. They say each picture name out loud, find the matching word in the word box, and write it on the line under the picture. Every word uses a short vowel sound, and together the six words cover all five short vowels, so children hear and write a, e, i, o, and u.
