This Different Vowel Sounds Worksheet helps second graders tackle one of the trickiest ideas in early reading: the same letters do not always make the same sound. The spelling ow says the long o sound in snow and window, but it says a different sound in clown and town. This different vowel sounds worksheet gives children a focused, friendly way to hear that difference and sort words by the sound they actually make.
Part A holds a word box of six words and two labelled columns, “ow as in bowl” and “ow as in crown,” with three writing lines under each heading. A bright sticker-style picture of a bowl and a crown sits under the columns as a key word for each sound, so a child can say the key word, then say the new word, and listen for a match. Part B gives four fresh words on a roomy grid, and students write bowl or crown to show which sound the ow makes.
