Description
The plot of a story is the chain of important events that moves it from a problem to an ending. This Important Events Worksheet helps first graders practice finding those events: what goes wrong at the start, what the main character tries first, the turning point, and how everything works out. Spotting the events that matter, and telling them apart from small details, is a key step toward retelling a story in order.
Students read a short, original story about Little Bear, who wakes up hungry and finds his honey jar empty. He visits the big oak tree, gets buzzed away by the bees, searches by the pond, and at last smells a bush full of red berries. After reading, children answer five multiple-choice questions about the problem, the first stop, the bees, the turning point and the ending. Have students underline each important event in the story before they fill in the bubbles.
