Understanding plot means knowing what happens in a story and the order it happens in. When second graders can retell the beginning, middle, and end of a story, they are building the comprehension foundation that every later reading skill rests on. This story plot order of events worksheet gives students a short, friendly narrative and asks them to place six events in the correct sequence, so the abstract idea of plot becomes something they can see, number, and explain.
This printable order of events sequencing worksheet opens with an original story about a boy named Ivan getting ready for his first day of school. Students read the passage once for enjoyment, then read it again with a pencil in hand, numbering each event box from 1 to 6. A short before-and-after question at the bottom asks them to write a full answer, so they practice explaining sequence in their own words. Print it as morning work, as a guided reading follow-up, or as a quick comprehension check.

Try reading the story aloud while students act out each event, then have them line up in sequence. Cut the six event boxes apart and let partners arrange them on a desk before writing any numbers.
