Description
Putting words in alphabetical order is one of the first research skills a child ever really uses, and it turns up everywhere — a dictionary, a glossary, a class list, the index at the back of a science book. This Insects Alphabetical Order Worksheet gives third graders ten insect names to sort, and it deliberately pushes past the first letter. Ant and aphid both start with a, beetle and bumblebee both start with b, and mosquito and moth agree all the way to the third letter, so students have to slow down, compare one letter at a time, and decide which word truly comes first.
The page works as independent practice, a literacy-center task, or a quick morning warm-up. Part A gives students a word box of ten insects printed out of order and ten numbered lines to fill in.
