About this resource
Description
A long vowel says its own name, like the a in cake or the i in kite. This long vowels word search worksheet helps first graders see and hear that sound in ten everyday words, two for each vowel. Hunting for each word letter by letter makes children look closely at spelling patterns such as silent e and vowel teams, which is exactly what they need for reading new words on their own.
The page has two parts. In Part A, students read the ten words in the word box and find and circle each one in the puzzle. Every word runs across or down and appears only once, so the search stays fair and fun for young readers. In Part B, students say five new words out loud and write the long vowel they hear on the line. Use it in a phonics center, for morning work, as homework, or as a quick review after a lesson on vowel sounds.
