Our opinions and reasons worksheet helps second graders learn a key part of opinion writing: an opinion is only as strong as the reasons behind it. Children read short opinions about favorite folktales and decide which reason really supports each one. Then they share an opinion of their own and back it up with two reasons.
About This Worksheet
In the first section, students read four opinions about well-known folktales, such as The Three Little Pigs, The Little Red Hen, and The Tortoise and the Hare. Each opinion has two possible reasons. One reason explains the opinion, and the other is a true detail that does not support it. Students fill in the bubble next to the reason that fits best. In the second section, children pick the folktale they like best, write their opinion on the first line, and add two reasons that tell why. A friendly picture of the third pig’s brick house adds a fun visual link to the first question.
