About this resource

Description

How to teach Sentence Types

Using Punctuation Pow Activity, students read provided sentences and determine which punctuation needs to be included to build their writing skills.

Being able to write in different sentence types makes your students’ writing engaging for audiences. This activity gives your student exposure to different types of sentences.

Roll a die and travel that many spots on the game board. When you land on a punctuation mark, read your sentences and determine if one of those sentences should end in that punctuation.

If you are using this activity, your student probably need additional reading fluency support.

Use this Sweetheart Sentence Activity as an additional resource to support your students’ reading ability.

Introduce this activity by writing three different sentences on the board. Examples are “I like ice cream”, “Who wants to eat ice cream” and “Lets go get ice cream”. Ask students to help you put a period, exclamation point, and a question mark at the end of each sentence. Then, students complete activity independently or with a partner. Finally, challenge students to write their own exclamatory, question, and declarative sentences.
