Using this Pick the Punctuation Activity, students will use punctuation for effect by sorting the sentence cards according to the punctuation that it needs. Next, they will record the sentence card letter on the punctuation sorting mat.
Understanding appropriate punctuation will help your students to read more fluently, thus impacting their comprehension. This activity gives your students exposure to ending punctuation in various types of sentences.
In order to enjoy this activity throughout the year, print on cardstock. Then, cut and laminate the punctuation and sentence cards. Finally, have students use the punctuation cards as categories and match the sentence cards to the appropriate categories.

Introduce this activity by writing three different sentences on the board. Examples are “I like ice cream”, “Who wants to eat ice cream” and “Lets go get ice cream”.
