R-controlled vowels are vowels that change their sound when they are followed by the letter r, as in car, her, bird, corn, and fur. This r controlled vowels words worksheet gives second graders focused practice reading and spelling words that use the ar, er, ir, or, and ur patterns. Because the r bends the vowel sound, these words can be tricky, so plenty of hands-on practice helps young readers master them.
This second grade r-controlled vowels practice worksheet uses a word bank and eight fill-in-the-blank sentences.
