Description
Short a is the very first vowel sound most children learn to read and spell, and it shows up in hundreds of the words a kindergartner meets every day: cat, bag, map, fan. Before a child can sound out a whole sentence, they have to hear that middle sound clearly and connect it to the letter a. This short a matching game worksheet gives them focused practice doing exactly that, one picture and one word at a time.
Each of the six cards on the page shows a friendly picture of a short a object. Your student says the picture name out loud, listens for the short a sound in the middle, then finds the matching word in the word box at the top of the page and writes it on the line below the picture. Because every word in the box is used exactly one time, children can check their own work as they go, and the writing line gives them room to practice forming letters neatly. An answer key is included on the second page, so checking the finished page takes seconds.
