About this resource
Description
Skip counting is the bridge between counting one at a time and real addition, and the fastest way to build it is short, repeated practice with a pattern a child can hear. This Thanksgiving Skip Counting Worksheet gives first graders three labeled number strips – count by twos, count by fives, count by tens – dressed in a warm harvest theme they will want to finish. Each strip prints its first number and its step, so a student always knows where the pattern starts and what to do next.
Students read the label on each strip, then fill the empty cards with the numbers that continue the count: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 across the top strip, then fives, then tens. The cards are large and evenly spaced, so a first grader writing two-digit numbers has real room and the finished row reads like a number line the class can check together. Fifteen numbers in all, which is about ten minutes of focused work. A complete answer key is included on the second page.
What’s Included
- One printable worksheet page with three labeled skip counting strips
- Count by twos, count by fives, and count by tens – the three 1st Grade sequences
- Fifteen large number cards to fill in, sized for first grade handwriting
- Friendly Thanksgiving harvest artwork
- A complete answer key on page two
Three Reasons This Helps Kids
- It builds the patterns addition needs. Counting by twos, fives and tens is how children later add and subtract quickly, and how they read a clock and count money.
- The step is stated, so nobody is stuck. Each strip names its own count and gives the first number, so a child who loses the thread can restart without asking.
- It is short enough to finish. Fifteen numbers is real practice without the fatigue that makes a first grader stop trying halfway down a page.
Ideas for Teachers and Parents
Say the counts out loud before anybody writes – clap on the twos, whisper the numbers in between, and let the rhythm do the teaching. Then let students fill the strips on their own and read the finished rows back to a partner. This Thanksgiving skip counting worksheet works as a November warm up, a morning-work page, a math-center card, or a quick check before a unit on adding within twenty. Homeschool families can pair it with counting coins on the same day, since nickels and dimes are fives and tens in the hand. Teachers who want more practice at the same level can follow it with a 1st grade counting by tens worksheet and compare which pattern each student finds easiest.
