How to teach Subtraction
Using Subtraction in the Garden Subtraction Activity, students read and solve subtraction sentences by picking vegetables in the garden!
Having fact fluency will help your students as they increase their math skills. This activity will help your students to build their subtraction fact fluency.
Select a subtraction sentence card. Use the vegetable manipulative that matches the one on the card. Example: 5 ‚Äì 4 = _____. Plant 5 carrots on the garden mat. Then, take away 4 carrots by ‚Äòpicking’ them out of the garden. To solve, count how many are left in the garden.When you are finished performing the subtraction sentence, record the problem and answer on the worksheet provided.
