Description
An adjective is a word that tells more about a noun. It answers questions like what kind, how many, or which one, and it turns a plain sentence into a picture a reader can see. Second graders who notice adjectives in the books they read start using them in the sentences they write, and a story they enjoy is the easiest place to practice. This adjective camping story worksheet gives students a short camping story and asks them to hunt for every describing word in it.
Students begin by reading a seventy-word story about a family camping trip at the lake. They circle each adjective they find in the story, then look back at the story a second time and write the adjective that goes with each noun listed below it. Reading the passage twice is the point: the first pass finds the describing words, and the second pass shows students how each adjective is attached to the noun it describes.
