The Circling Long Vowel Sounds E Worksheet helps 1st grade readers hear and spot the long e sound. Long e is the vowel sound in words like bee, leaf and key, and it can be spelled several ways: ee, ea, ey and a final e. Children who can hear that sound, and tell it apart from the short e in bed or ten, are ready to decode a whole new set of words on their own.
The Circling Long Vowel Sounds E Worksheet starts with the ear and ends with the eye. In Part A, students say the name of each of six pictures and circle the three that carry the long e sound. In Part B, they read four pairs of printed words aloud and circle the long e word in each pair. Every pair uses two words of the same length, so the answer can only be found by reading. Use it for classroom phonics practice, a small reading group, homework or a quick check after a vowel team lesson.
