How to teach Place Value
In this Let’s Make a Number Hundreds Tens One Activity, students understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones.
Numbers can be written in multiple different ways. In this activity, students will practice creating numbers using base ten cards.
Students shuffle and deal each player 6 number cards. Then, students each make the highest 3 digit number using their number cards. After each round, students draw 3 more cards to continue their play. Finally, students keep score using the score card to find out who wins!

After all the matches are made, share students discussions that you heard to promote place value skills. Finally, students can practice creating numbers on their own with the number cards.
