About this resource
Description
Big J, little j and the J in jaguar all come together in the Letter J Game, an old-school, 8-bit space shooter for preschool kids. Kids fly Lexy’s little pixel jet through outer space, over Funzyland and into the jungle. Tap a target, and the jet zooms into line and fires a colorful pixel blast. When a child blasts the right one, it is caught in a sparkly ring and zooms into the jet’s cargo bay. Playing the letter j game again and again helps little learners recognize the big J and the little j, tell j apart from look-alike letters like i, g and y, and hear that jaguar, jeep, juice and jam all start with J.
Watch the Letter J Game
In this letter j phonics game, Lexy cheers kids on through three rounds. First they blast the space jellyfish with the big J among letters like T, I and L, with the tip that big J has a bar on top and a hook at the bottom. Then they fly over Funzyland and blast the jars with the little j among look-alikes like i, g and y, with the tip that little j has a dot on top and a hook at the bottom. In the final round, Bomzy tosses picture bubbles in the jungle, and every picture that starts with J takes away one of his hearts. The letters and pictures a child mixed up come back for one more try. Lexy reads every direction out loud, names each answer (“Jaguar! Jaguar starts with the letter J.”) and gives a kind hint after a wrong choice.
The more kids catch, the stronger the jet gets: a double blaster, a plasma blaster and a rainbow blaster. Kids build streaks of 3, 5 and 10 in a Row, chase a High Score and go for a Perfect Game, and a golden star coin can sparkle once a round. At the end, kids earn up to five stars.
