About this resource
Description
Big T, little t and the T in tent all come together in the Letter T Game, a cheerful taco truck game for preschool kids. Alphy has opened his taco truck, and three crunchy taco shells are waiting on the counter. Each shell shows a letter or a picture. When a child taps the shell with the big T, the ground beef flies out of the bowl and drops right into the taco with a crunch and a burst of sparkles. Kids can also drag the topping onto a shell all by themselves. After every topping the shells shuffle, so kids look for the T again and again. Playing the letter t game helps little learners recognize the big T and the little t, tell t apart from look-alike letters like f and l, and hear that tent, teddy bear, toothbrush, tie, tooth and train all start with T.
Watch the Letter T Game
In this letter t phonics game, Alphy cheers kids on through three rounds, and every round has a hungry customer in the truck window. First they fill Turtle’s taco with beef, lettuce and tomato by finding the big T among letters like F, E and L, with the tip that big T has a tall line down the middle and a line across the top. Then they fill Tiger’s taco with cheese, beans and salsa by finding the little t among look-alikes like f, l and k, with the tip that little t is a straight line with a short line across. Last, they fill Toucan’s taco by finding the pictures that start with T and skipping the sun, the apple and the fish. The letters and pictures a child mixed up come back for one more try. Alphy reads every direction out loud, names each answer (“Tent! Tent starts with T.”) and gives a kind hint after a wrong tap. Play it in your browser on a phone, tablet, Chromebook or computer.

Why Teachers Love It
The Letter T Game follows how young children learn letters best. First, the wrong answers are the real mix-ups young children make, like f and l for t and F for T, so kids practice exactly what trips them up. Second, Alphy names the letter or the word after every right answer and uses the same words teachers use, like big T, little t and starts with T, so the lesson sounds the same at home and at school. Third, the crunchy tacos, the hungry customers, the fiesta confetti, the golden taco surprise, streak celebrations and the stars at the end keep kids smiling and asking to play again.
Teachers and parents can keep the T fun going after the game. Make a big T with your arms: one arm up tall and both arms across the top. Go on a T hunt and find a toothbrush, a towel and a teddy bear. Build a pretend taco together and say “T is for taco” with every topping.
