About this resource
Description
Kittens, yarn balls and yum-yum treats come together in the Letter Y Game, a cozy pet shop cat playroom for preschool kids. Roxy cheers kids on as they tap the yarn ball with the big letter Y so the kitten can play with it, help a kitten pounce on the yarn ball with the little y, and find the pictures that start with Y. Every right answer pops out a yum-yum treat, and a happy kitten munches it in its bowl! Playing the letter y game again and again helps little learners recognize the big Y and the little y, tell Y apart from look-alike letters like V and X, and hear that yo-yo, yak, yogurt and yacht all start with Y.
In this letter y phonics game, Roxy guides kids through three rounds. First they find the big Y among letters like V, X and K, with the tip that big Y has two arms up and one line down, like a V on a stick. Then they find the little y among look-alikes like v, g and j, with the tip that little y is a little v with a long tail. Last, kids tap the picture that starts with Y, like the yo-yo, yak, yogurt or yacht, and a kitten gets an extra-special sparkly treat. The letters and pictures a child mixed up come back for one more try. Roxy reads every direction out loud, names each answer (“Yak! Yak starts with the letter Y.”) and gives a kind hint after a wrong choice.
Kids build streaks of 3, 5 and 10 in a Row, chase a High Score and go for a Perfect Game, and every round ends with a kitten celebration. A golden treat can sparkle once a round. At the end, kids earn up to five stars.
