About this resource
Description
Big V, little v and the V in violin all come together in the Letter V Game, a village van ride for preschool kids. Penny drives an old-school camper van through a storybook village. At every stop, three balloons float over the road, each with a letter or a picture in its middle. Kids tap the balloon they think is right. When they pick the big V, a ramp springs up and the big green GO button lights up: kids press and hold GO, the van zooms up the ramp, flies into the air, does a full flip and pops the balloon! A wrong pick floats away with a friendly tip, and kids try again. Playing the letter v game again and again helps little learners recognize the big V and the little v, tell v apart from look-alike letters like w and y, and learn that violin, vase, vest and volcano all start with V.
In this letter v phonics game, Penny cheers kids on through three rounds. First they pop the big V among letters like W, A and U, with the tip that big V has two straight lines that meet in a point at the bottom. Then they find the little v among look-alikes like w, y and u, with the tip that little v is a little point at the bottom, sitting on the line. Last, they pop the pictures that start with V and skip the sun, the cat and the boat. The letters and pictures a child mixed up come back for one more try. Penny reads every direction out loud, names each answer (“Violin! Violin starts with the letter V.”) and gives a kind hint after a wrong choice. At the end of every round, the van drives into the village garage and comes out upgraded, from a flame van to a rainbow rocket van to a golden van!
Kids build streaks of 3, 5 and 10 in a Row, chase a High Score and go for a Perfect Game. A turbo star and a golden balloon can show up after right answers, and a silly chicken may dash across the road. On a phone held upright, kids see the road from above as the van drives up the screen. At the end, kids earn up to five stars.
