Description
This short e matching game worksheet helps kindergarten students hear the short e sound in simple three-letter words. The short e vowel says /e/ as in bed and egg, and learning to hear it in the middle of a word is a key step toward reading and spelling CVC words. Matching a picture to its printed word ties the sound a child hears to the letters a child sees.
At the top of the page is a word box with six short e words: bed, egg, hen, jet, net, and pen. Below it are six picture cards. Students say the name of each picture, listen for the short e sound, find the matching word in the box, and write it on the roomy line under the picture. The pictures are shuffled so they do not follow the order of the word box, which keeps children reading each word rather than copying down the list. A second page gives the answer key.
