Gravity is the pull that gives every object its weight, and that pull is not the same everywhere. Each world has a gravity factor that compares its pull with Earth’s pull, so the same student who weighs 78 pounds on Earth would weigh far more on Jupiter and far less on the Moon. This Weight Gravity Worksheet turns that idea into real decimal practice: fifth graders multiply an Earth weight by a gravity factor such as 0.17, 0.91, 1.07, or 2.53 and place the decimal point correctly in the product. It is exactly the reasoning behind standard 5.NBT.B.7, wrapped in a question children actually want to answer.

This 5th grade decimals worksheet opens with a four-row chart. Students read each world’s gravity factor and Earth weight, multiply, and write the exact product in the last column. Two multi-step word problems follow, asking how many more pounds a student would weigh on Jupiter and what three moon-rover crates weigh on the Moon. A short written response closes the page, asking which of two worlds would make a rock weigh more than it does on Earth and how the gravity factor proves it. Three things make this Weight Gravity Worksheet stick. First, every problem has a purpose a child can picture, so multiplying by a decimal stops feeling like a rule and starts feeling like a measurement. Second, the factors run above and below 1, which forces students to notice that multiplying by 2.53 makes a number larger while multiplying by 0.17 makes it smaller — the single misconception that trips up most decimal work. Third, the written explanation asks for reasoning, not just an answer, so teachers can see whether a student truly understands place value in the product or is only following steps.

Teachers and parents can stretch the lesson easily. Have students weigh a backpack or a stack of books and calculate its weight on each world in the chart. Post a class chart of everyone’s Mars weight and order the results. Ask students to work backward: if an object weighs 34 pounds on Mars, what does it weigh on Earth? Pair the sheet with a science lesson on the Moon, or challenge early finishers to invent a new world, choose its gravity factor, and write two problems for a partner to solve.
