Sequencing is the skill that turns a pile of events into a story a reader can follow. A third grader who can put events in order can retell a plot, summarize a chapter and spot the cause that came before an effect. This Morning Routine Sequence Worksheet practices that skill with something every student already knows by heart: the six things that have to happen between the alarm going off and the bus pulling up.
Students read six mixed-up morning events and write 1 through 6 in the box beside each one. Every event names the result of the one before it, so the order can be worked out from the words on the page rather than guessed. This 3rd grade sequencing worksheet then asks three follow-up questions: one that hunts for the exact words that prove when an event happened, one that asks what would go wrong if two steps were swapped, and one that invites the student to write a brand-new closing step using a time-order word.

Three things make this Morning Routine Sequence Worksheet a strong fit for a third-grade reading block. First, the ordering clues are inside the sentences, so a student has to read closely instead of relying on what a morning usually looks like. Second, the written questions lift the task above simple numbering: naming the words that prove an order is exactly what standards-based reading assessments ask for. Third, the familiar setting removes the background-knowledge barrier, which means the sheet measures sequencing rather than what a student happens to know about the topic.
Teachers can turn this into a partner activity by having one student read the events aloud in mixed order while the other arranges cut-apart strips on the desk.
