How to teach Conversation Roles

Using the Roles of Conversation Activity, studentsparticipate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.

Being a strong speaker and listener helps your students be a good friend and conversationalist. It also takes a lot of practice. This activity will give your students practice speaking about something that is important to them.

Use the Role Cards to determine which role each person in the group will have. Choose a topic or book to discuss. Then, give the students a few minutes to fulfill their role regarding the topic or book.
