Description
Place value tells us that a digit is worth a different amount depending on where it sits in a number, and the Snow Place Value Worksheet gives second graders twelve winter-fresh chances to practice it. Every number on this snow place value worksheet has three digits, and one digit in each number has a line under it. Students write what that digit is truly worth. A 9 in the tens place is worth 90, and a 4 in the hundreds place is worth 400. This is the core idea of 2.NBT.A.1, and children need it before they can regroup, round, or add bigger numbers with confidence.
Part A moves from the number to the value. Part B flips the task around: students read an amount written as hundreds, tens, and ones, then write the whole number in the box. One item has zero tens and another has zero ones, so children practice the placeholder zero in two different spots. Use the page for independent seat work, a math center, morning work, or homework. A complete answer key is on page two, so checking all twelve problems takes only a minute.

Ideas for Teachers and Parents
Before the worksheet, build a few of the numbers with base ten blocks and ask which pile each digit stands for. Keep the winter theme going by writing numbers on paper snowflakes and asking children to say the value of one digit before they toss the flake into a bin. After Part B, ask students to write their own number where the 7 is worth 700, then one where the 7 is worth only 7, and talk about why the same digit changed.
